Hello 👋

Digital Literacy and AI fluency is in focus for East Asian educational strategy. China's Ministry of Education advanced its National Digital Education Strategy with Smart Education of China 2.0 now carrying over 145,000 higher education courses with 72 billion cumulative visits, embedding AI literacy requirements across all levels, from primary school through to professional and lifelong learning. South Korea and Indonesia signed a bilateral MOU on April 1 establishing the Global AI Basic Society Alliance, framing AI as infrastructure for basic societal rights, spanning education, health, and civic participation, with intent to extend across Asia-Pacific.

The shared direction is a signal of toward a digital transformation from connectivity and device access toward AI fluency as a foundational competency at every level of society. As these frameworks scale, the benchmark for what constitutes baseline digital citizenship will shift with implications for education, workforce standards, and institutional capability across the region.

Its early days. As East Asia develops its own AI governance stack, those frameworks have yet to meaningfully influence global business decision-making.
