🏫 The EU’s primary student enrolment declined by 2024

Primary school enrolment in the European Union declined from 24.5M pupils in 2018 to 22.6M in 2024. The gradual drop largely reflects falling birth rates and ageing populations across many European countries. Smaller school cohorts are becoming common as fertility rates remain below replacement levels. Education systems are adjusting by consolidating schools and expanding digital learning resources. The European Education Area initiative led by the European Commission supports cooperation and modernisation across EU education systems.
🍃 Transport amounts to nearly half of the world’s tourism carbon footprint

Transport accounts for nearly half of the global tourism carbon footprint in 2022, making it the largest contributor by a wide margin. Air travel produces high emissions because aircraft burn large amounts of jet fuel during long-distance flights. Growing international tourism means more frequent flights, increasing the sector’s climate impact. Airlines and tourism operators are now exploring sustainable aviation fuels and efficiency improvements. The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, overseen by the International Civil Aviation Organization aims to reduce aviation emissions globally.
🤖 Over 90% of UK students use AI

AI use in the United Kingdom reached over 90% among university students and 80% among postgraduates. The high uptake among undergraduates reflects heavy coursework demands, research tasks, and familiarity with digital learning tools. Universities increasingly integrate AI for coding assistance, writing support, and data analysis. The trend mirrors growing reliance on digital study tools across higher education. The Artificial Intelligence Regulation Framework implemented by the UK Government guides responsible AI use in education.
